If you go and talk to any tourist who comes to India, " Yo firangi, why have you come to India?" , in 99% of the cases, his reply would be " To see poor India, Hungry India" !! Damnit!!
And some people just to earn money, make movies which potray India as slum and poor Indians as Slum Dogs!! This is certainly not acceptable! You have the right to go and make any movies which have a good story and nice music track but not at the cost of demeaning a great country!!
Leave about the firangi director, but where was the conscience of the Indian counterparts of the movie? Instead of showing the progressing economy and the rich culture, all you do is potray Indians as slum dogs out of which one guy goes out and becomes a millionaire. Crap!
I was thinking of how to give you a befitting reply, but then i remembered the dialogue from the movie namaste london
"Mr PringIe, he'd Iike to tell you something about India...
When we greet one another, we foId our hands in namastey... because we beIieve...
that God resides in the heart of every human being.
We come from a nation where we allow a lady of Catholic origin...
to step aside for a Sikh to be sworn in as Prime Minister...
to a Muslim President to govern a nation of over 80 percent Hindus.
It may aIso interest you to know that...
many of the origins to your words come from Sanskrit.
For example, maatr becomes mother...bhratr becomes brother, giamiti becomes geometry, trikonniti becomes trigonometry.
We have 5600 newspapers... magazines in over twenty-one different Ianguages...
with a combined readership of over 120 miIIion.
We have reached the moon and back, but yet...
you people still feel that we've only reached as far as the Indian rope trick
We are the third largest pool in the word of doctors, engineers and scientists.
Maybe your grandfather didn't tell you that... we have the third largest army in the world.
And even then, I foId my hands in humility before you...
because we don't beIieve we are above or beneath any individual.
And... Namastey!"

nice post...
Fact is simple. India is a poor country. Lets face it, the events in the movie are bitter but lets face it, its the truth.
Open air lavatories, traveling on(instead of in) train coaches, careless call center employees are all a reality here.
I believe, the misery of poor and backward India is also as inspiring as the appreciation and attention attracted by growing and prosperous India.Besides, people are expected to be mature enough to understand that India is not all about what is shown in this one single film strip.
And as for me, I got a pretty good flawless entertainment for few hours.
boss, if i may say so..slumdog millionaire does not portray ALL indians as slumdogs. Its just abt the story of an extremely poor kid who has had to suffer the evils EXISTENT in our society. Not that i am a great fan of the movie. My blood boils when i listen to Russell Peters crapping about Indians. But I feel the movie should be taken in positive light. Did you knw that there is soon going to b some kinda prgrm wherein millionaires will hide their identities and visit slums and do some charitable work later..i dont want to comment on the efficacy but noble idea every1 wud agree. Doesn the movie help u sympathise with what the less fortunate of our fellow citizens have to suffer? Doesn it tingle ur very nerves which have been dead for so many years?
Think over it..India was once the golden bird..and 70% of it is rising from its ashes at more than 8% in the last half decade..the world has reckoned the fact. people are luking fwd to India to keep the economic engine chugging. but wat abt the remaining 30%?
i think slumdog is jus strengthening the opinion ppl ve towards Indians... as a French guy other day approched me n said.... the movie is good and v The French think exactly the same about Indians....
Watch the movie before you talk.
And if you still feel inclined to rant this way, realise that the aim of the movie is to tell a story. Not to highlight the state of affairs in the slums of Bombay.
alrite...well...the post was good...but its true....sometimes we choose to ignore poverty in India just to make ourselves happy with the state of affairs....anyways I liked the layout of your blog.....I have a question about the Amazon ads out there though....were they auto-selected by google to display on ur blog....I'm seeing that this could b turned into a business idea of what ads you wanna see on ur blog....I'm kinda vague here...high on caffeine....so kinda ranting....but may be i'll rephrase it and post it in ur next comment.....
most of foreigners are just floating in India just on exchange rates and low cost of travelling such diverse country;u made a quite correct point here....
I agree slumdog millinior is a great movie. But it isn't fair to shown India and Indians as show in movie. I travel around the world. I see such cases all around the world. There are poor people in every other country out there. If can award by showing Indian culture and heritage it is great but Showing India as shit and Winning awards on that is not good at all. at least the people who accepted those awards should feel that. If those awards are given to movie like Jodha Akbar or Lagaan. I will feel happy. But this really is bull shit.. showing India and Indians as shit and getting awards.
and somewhere down the line i did like namaste london more than slumdog.
i dont know why and have been dying to say it , there are scenes in the movie which are solely meant to show poor india - bechara india .
i read all the comments now .
"namaste" to all of 'em (annd that dance rishi k. did in that movie ) :)
Gud one.Namestay London is one of my fav movies
I also wanted to portray such feelings but i think it would be needless to say you portrayed it in a much better fashion than i would have thought to....
Aren't you being a bit too biased simply because it depicted some reality's of India?
I'm sure they could've shot the movie in Brazil as well. The story woven into the movie fit well with the country. There are many scenes one could easily recognize.
Agreed, jumping into a pool of crap just to get an autograph might have been a bit too much, but then, who knows.. Bollywood rules and people do crazy things just to touch the celebrity.
The reason for the movie getting so much of recognition says a lot for itself.
And i'm not sure the kind of firang's you've asked the question to, but the ones i've meet and seen have just one answer to give.
To party on the beaches of Goa, travel through the length and breadth of the country and to soak in as many cultures as possible within the country.
Have u seen the movie Ciudad de Dios? Its a very VERY good brazilean movie about a poor kid in Brazil. I have never seen any brazilean jumping out the water for that movie like indians do for slum dog. You have your egos to high. Face the facts, accept your reality and shut up because its really annoying.
India will never improve itself if you continue to deny your problems, and you guys have a lot of problems. Over 600 million of you still defecate in the open.
Indians are brown because that's the color of SHIT.
I work with Indians and they have to be the stupidest fucks I have ever worked with.
Work is like a 5k race, I am a rabbit and all the Indians are turtles. It's so easy to get promoted when your group hires only Indians because it doesn't take much skill to overtake those shit-skins.
